Once youre present for your Texas drivers license renewal, you need to provide your signature for the license and get fingerprinted. You also need to have your photo taken, pay the application fee, and pass a vision exam.
People may do this by memorizing vision charts or skewing their answers during their exam. But this is not a recommended practice for several reasons: It can result in visual discomfort, an incorrect prescription, road dangers and even legal trouble.
To pass the DOT physical eye test, your eyesight needs to be at least 20/40 on the Snellen eye chart, with or without corrective eyewear in each eye, and both eyes. Your peripheral vision needs to be 70 degrees or better in both eyes.
So-called normal vision is measured by whether or not you can read the 20/20 line. If you can, it means that you can accurately read the same line of block letters from a distance of 20 feet that other people with normal vision can read at 20 feet.
To use the Snellen chart, stand 20 feet away and read the rows of letters, starting at the top and working your way to the bottom. Do this while covering one eye and reading the chart with your uncovered eye. When you finish with one eye, restart the test with your other eye uncovered.

If you cannot read the big E on a Snellen chart, you have a visual acuity of less than 20/200, which makes you legally blind.
ing to the Texas Department of Public Safety, you must have a minimum visual acuity of 20/70 in at least one eye, with or without correction. If you wear glasses or contacts, you may use them during the test, but you must wear them while driving if your license indicates you require corrective lenses.
Line 1: If you are only able to read the big E, your vision is approximately 20/200. If you can read the T B, you are reading 20/100. Line 2: This line is approximately 20/50. Line 3: This line is ~ 20/40.
