JROTC is open to all interested students who agree to comply with the standards of the program. It is a 4-year program, so ideally, first year students will begin their freshman year. However, students may begin the program at the Leadership Education and Training (LET) 1 level.
Any person can start JROTC any grade in high school, it is not required that you enroll in ninth grade but it is encouraged.
If your school doesnt have JROTC, there are most likely other JROTC-like groups in your area that you can join. These groups include the Civil Air Patrols cadet program that is similar to Air Force JROTC, the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps which is similar to Navy JROTC, and Young Marines.
High school Junior ROTC program is open to any 9th - 12th grade student who desires to develop their leadership and citizenship skills.
Once you complete your junior year of high school, you can get a head start on your future by applying for the ROTC National Scholarship (a four-year scholarship) at a participating school. Applications open at the start of each summer.
