Homeowners are entitled to an income tax credit for school property taxes of up to $300 based on the amount of property taxes paid for a primary residence. Veterans and surviving spouses may be entitled to an income tax credit based on property taxes paid for the claimants principal residence.
The First Dollar Credit is a reduction on the property tax bill for Wisconsin property owners. Every parcel containing real property improvements qualifies for the First Dollar Credit. This credit automatically applies to all qualifying properties so property owners do not have to apply for this credit.
