2. Temporary Additional Duty (TEMADD). TEMADD, which is a type of temporary duty, involves one journey away from the Service members PDS in the performance of prescribed duties at one or more places with return to the starting point directed upon completion.
A temporary duty assignment (TDY) is a shorter military assignment with a specific desired outcome. TDYs can be as short as a few days or as long as several months. In general, if you relocate for more than 180 days, your military move may qualify as a permanent change of station (PCS) rather than a TDY.
USN Personnel may take no-cost TAD when departing or arriving at a command. This TAD is not to exceed 10 calendar days and include no more than 5 working days (5 workdays in between weekends or during holidays). This request may be submitted after Official Military Orders have been issued for your next command.
Temporary Additional Duty (TEMADD) orders are used to assign a member to TEMDU (Temporary Additional Duty Unit) in addition to their present duties. These orders direct the member to resume their regular or temporary duty after completion of the TEMADD.
