The annual commercial vehicle fee will range from $150 for a vehicle up to 12,000 pounds and seven years old or older, to $400 for a truck registered at a gross weight of 60,000 pounds or more regardless of age. The fee is in addition to registration fees.
A properly assigned title, proof of insurance, the signature of the purchaser and the current fee are needed to get a 60 day permit. A properly completed transfer of ownership agreement (TR-39A) from the dealership may also be used, along with proof of insurance and the current fee.
Only one 60-day permit can be issued to any person per vehicle sale. The date of sale is the legal date of purchase, which is used to determine the expiration date of the permit. Proof of insurance coverage must be provided for the vehicle. The cost of the permit is $13.00.
Until URS is fully implemented, there is no charge for a USDOT number. However, if you also want to apply for operating authority (MC/FF/docket numbers), the cost is $300 per authority.
You will need to bring your current license plate, current registration, proof of insurance, and pay any applicable fees. You will be issued a 60 temporary license plate until your replacement plate is received in the mail.
