An induration of 15 mm or more is considered positive in: Always considered positive in any person. Healthy individuals without any risk factors for TB.
For people without a known risk factor for TB, a 15 mm or larger firm swelling at the injection site indicates a positive reaction.
The skin test reaction should be read between 48 and 72 hours after administration....The reaction should be measured in millimeters of induration (palpable, raised, hardened area or swelling). Do not measure erythema (redness). The indurated area should be measured across the forearm (perpendicular to the long axis).
The Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST) is performed by placing an intradermal injection of 0.1 ml of purified protein derivative (PPD) containing 5 tuberculin units (TU) into the volar surface of the forearm.
There are two kinds of tests used to detect TB bacteria in the body: the TB skin test (TST) and TB blood tests. A positive TB skin test or TB blood test only tells that a person has been infected with TB bacteria. It does not tell whether the person has latent TB infection (LTBI) or has progressed to TB disease.

You're considered positive if your bump is: Greater than or equal to 5 millimeters (mm) and you have a compromised immune system. Equal to 10 mm and you're a healthcare worker. Equal to 15 mm and you don't have any risk factors.
"Reading" the skin test means detecting a raised, thickened local area of skin reaction, referred to as induration. Induration is the key item to detect, not redness or bruising. Read skin tests 48-72 hours after the injection when the size of the induration is maximal.
The nurse will inject a small amount of fluid just under the skin of the left forearm. You will see a little bubble or blister appear right away at the injection site. This is normal and it will soon disappear. After 2-3 days, you will be asked to see the nurse to have the area checked and the reaction measured.
* For employees who are otherwise at low risk for TB and who are tested as part of an infection control screening program at the start of employment, a reaction of 15 mm is considered positive.
