QUALIFICATIONS Be a United States Citizen. Meet one of the following criteria: Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old at time of application.
The academy lasts approximately 16 weeks, which includes a minimum of 496 training hours set forth by POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training Council). Upon successful completion of the law enforcement training course, certification for basic law enforcement peace officers is issued.
