A Wesley Foundation is a United Methodist campus ministry sponsored in full or in part (depending on the congregation) by the United Methodist Church on a non-church owned and operated campus.
In the early 1990s, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools disputed with Westminster because of its refusal to give women membership on the board of trustees. The accrediting body backed down after the United States Department of Education took the seminarys side in the dispute.
The Seminary retains a separate corporate and academic identity, with its own Board of Governors. The University and the Seminary have reciprocal academic privileges. Its founding mission was and still is the preparation of dedicated ministers for the Methodist Church, and other Protestant denominations.
The obligation of all who are truly Christs to live righteously, joyously, and sacrificially, to endeavor to bring salvation to all persons everywhere, and to express compassionate love in ministering to every kind of human need.
