As of 11 June 2018, international medical graduates applying for registration with a licence to practise in the UK need to have their primary medical qualification verified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®).
How long does it take to get ECFMG certification? Once you submit your application materials, it takes around two weeks to receive ECFMG certification. Ensure that you've met all the requirements so that you get your certificate in time to apply to a U.S. medical residency.
The purpose of ECFMG Certification is to assess whether IMGs are ready to enter U.S. residency and fellowship programs that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
