Failing to file your Biennial Update can result in fines, penalties, or even the deactivation of your USDOT number. This can lead to being placed out of service and disrupt your ability to legally operate in interstate or intrastate commerce. Avoid costly disruptions by ensuring your information is up to date.
Carriers are also exempt if they ONLY transport employees of their company (e.g., a company shuttles its own employees to and from a work station). Exempt status typically excuses a carrier from the Operating Authority requirement, but a USDOT Number is still required.
The MCS-150, or Motor Carrier Identification Report, is a form required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for motor carriers and other registrants to update their existing U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) number company record.
As an intermodal equipment provider, your companys safety information will be acquired through roadability reviews, crash investigations, and inspections. After FMCSA receives the completed MCS-150C Form, it will generally take 5-7 days for the update to be processed.
The FMCSA requires all interstate carriers to file a MCS-150 or MCS-150B, if a Safety permit is required, every 24 months based on the last two digits of the US DOT number. The last digit of the number dictates the month and the second to last digit dictates the year.
