Can the military extend your service?

The policy has been legally challenged several times. However, federal courts have consistently found that military service members contractually agree that their term of service may be involuntarily extended until the end of their obligated service.

What type of discharge is QMP?

Any NCO separated through the QMP process is given an Honorable Discharge. He/she will also be given a re-entry code that precludes joining the service again. NCOs who have reached 18 years of active service at the time of QMP selection will be allowed to apply for retirement.

What does active duty reserve mean?

A person who is active duty is in the military full time. They work for the military full time, may live on a military base, and can be deployed at any time. Persons in the Reserve or National Guard are not full-time active duty military personnel, although they can be deployed at any time should the need arise.
