These credits provide a financial incentive for solar energy system owners by allowing them to monetize the environmental benefits of their clean energy generation.

To encourage the use of renewable energy, the Australian Government provides incentives called small-scale technology certificates (STCs). Individuals or businesses can earn STCs when they eligible small-scale renewable energy systems.
STCs are calculated using the following formula: Postcode Zone Rating x Deeming Period (in years) x System Size (in kW) = Number of STCs. For example, a 6.6kW system installed in Zone 3 in 2024 would generate approximately 60-65 STCs. The number of STCs awarded decreases each year as the deeming period shortens.
STC stands for Standard Test Conditions and is the major solar panel output performance testing condition used by most manufacturers and testing bodies.
