Florida Prepaid Plan benefits can be transferred from one student to another family member of the student. The new student that you would like to transfer the Florida Prepaid College Plan funds to must be a resident of Florida and must be able to use the plan within the original 10-year benefit period.
A Florida Prepaid College Plan allows families to lock in college plan prices and prepay, on a monthly or lump-sum basis, the future cost of college tuition, tuition differential fee, local fees and, optionally, dormitory housing.
You may designate yourself or another individual as the new account owner and you may also designate a new survivor. Any person designated to be the new account owner or survivor must be 18 years of age or older and a citizen or resident alien of the United States.
The Beneficiary is the person you are saving for. You may enroll any Florida resident with a valid Social Security number who is a U.S. citizen or resident alien, at any age, and at any time.
This means that by purchasing a plan for a newborn, for example, you are able to lock in the costs covered by a Florida Prepaid Plan for the next 28 years (i.e., 18 years until they can start college plus 10 years after that to finish college).
