Tenn. Code Ann. Section 55-4-330 allows eligible persons in Tennessee whose spouse, parent, sibling, or child is serving in the armed forces of the United States at the time of application to obtain a Blue Star Family license plate.
PURPOSE: Owner's or lessee of motor vehicles who are residents of Tennessee may apply for E-plates if they are considered emergency personnel as described in Tenn. Code Ann. 55-4-223. This form is not required for IAFF or FOP plates or for a renewal.
New plates can be renewed in person, online, or by mail. If you choose not to renew in person, the renewal fee will include $5 for mailing. Motorists are not able to renew early to receive the new license plate.
Tenn. Code Ann. Section 55-4-330 allows eligible persons in Tennessee whose spouse, parent, sibling, or child is serving in the armed forces of the United States at the time of application to obtain a Blue Star Family license plate.
As of 2022, plates are issued by the Tennessee Department of Revenue through its Vehicle Services Division. Only rear plates have been required since 1977.
