The HiMAT is an objective test of a variety of gait and mobility functions such as running, hopping, stair navigation, backward walking in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI).
High Level Mobility and Assessment Tool (HiMAT)
The High Level Mobility and Assessment tool (HiMAT) is a standardised outcome measure used to quantify motor performance in individuals with high-level balance and mobility deficits.
Purpose. The HiMAT is a unidimensional scale originally designed to assess high-level motor performance in TBI patients. It has also been used to evaluate people with multiple-trauma orthopedic injuries as well as normally developing children.
29 Normative median HiMAT scores for young healthy males are 54 (interquartile range, 53-54) and for young healthy females 51 (interquartile range, 48-53). 30 The HiMAT was selected as it quantifies high-level mobility capacity important for social, leisure, employment, and sporting activities after TBI.
