Originally called the 'Imperial Delhi Gymkhana Club', it was founded on 3 July 1913, at Coronation Grounds, Delhi.
The Delhi Gymkhana Club is one of the oldest Clubs in India. It moved to its present location on the 3rd July 1913. It was then called the \u201cImperial Delhi Gymkhana Club\u201d and Mr. Spencer Harcourt Butler was its first President.
The club's daily income from its restaurants, bar, gym and sports facilities is Rs 7.5 lakh. Over the years, the registration fee for government officials to join the club has jumped from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh and for non-government candidates from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7.5 lakh.
Only the Bombay Golf Club retained its separate existence. The establishment of the Bombay Gymkhana was largely due to the steadfast efforts of Captain Ernest Lindsay Marryat and Lieutenant Carmichael Light Young.
