482 visa (was 457 visa) processing time For low-risk workers, a 482 visa (was 457 visa) will usually be processed within two months.
If you are in Australia, you must hold a substantive 457 or TSS visa issued under a labour agreement. You and any family members that were included on the visa application must meet the Department of Home Affairs health requirement.
457 Visa holders who have not been in Australia for two years, or who have changed employers while working in Australia, may still be eligible to apply for Permanent Residency through the Direct Entry Stream. Applicants must have an employer willing to sponsor them for permanent residency.
The 457 Visa was a visa which was previously a principle route for skilled workers with employer sponsorship to live and work in Australia. It was replaced by the Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS Visa), which has itself been replaced with the Skills in Demand Visa.
Replacing the 457 is the new employer-sponsored work visa called the Temporary Skills Shortage (subclass 482) visa, nicknamed the TSS. If youre already familiar with the 457, there are a few aspects of the TSS that you will be accustomed to (namely, the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold).

The changes envisage a phasing out of the 457 visa by March 2018 and its replacement with the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa. The TSS visa will consist of the following two streams: The Short-Term stream valid for up to two years and covers STSOL occupations. It can be renewed onshore once only.
The Temporary Work (Skilled) visa or subclass 457 allows skilled workers to come to Australia and work for an approved business for up to four years. You can apply for this visa only if you are sponsored by an approved Australian business.
In the past, holders of the 457 visa could reapply for their visa and have it renewed for another 4 years. However the 482 visa is only allowed to be used twice onshore. This means that if you have used the visa twice, you cannot use it again.
