Originally formed in 1905, the IWW has a rich and proud history, organising workers into revolutionary 'industrial unions' along the supply chain of their industry. This form of union organisation provides workers with the maximum clout in any dispute with employers.
The I.W.W. hoped to to create "one big union" through which workers would own the means of production and distribution. The I.W.W. succeeded in organizing a group of workers who on the surface seemed to have very little in common.
Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), byname Wobblies, labour organization founded in Chicago in 1905 by representatives of 43 groups. The IWW opposed the American Federation of Labor's acceptance of capitalism and its refusal to include unskilled workers in craft unions.
The goal of the IWW was to organize all of the workers of the nation into the single union and then work to abolish the capitalist system.
Membership also declined due to government crackdowns on radical, anarchist, and socialist groups during the First Red Scare after World War I. In Canada the IWW was outlawed by the federal government by an Order in Council on September 24, 1918.

Since then the IWW has been rebuilding itself and has been involved in a lot of job organizing and actions. Like any organization that has been around for a long time, the IWW has evolved in some ways, but our basic ideas on organization and actions are still the same.
That same year, at a mass trial in Chicago, 101 I.W.W. leaders were sentenced to federal prison terms for conspiring to obstruct the war effort. As a result of the convictions and desertions, the I.W.W. was both physically and psychologically destroyed.
In Philadelphia, the IWW organized longshoremen across color lines to win united multiracial strikes against the shipping bosses. In Louisiana, it organized lumber mill workers into integrated local unions, breaking Jim Crow segregation laws, a practice not accepted by other unions until decades later.
The IWW promotes the concept of "One Big Union", and contends that all workers should be united as a social class to supplant capitalism and wage labor with industrial democracy.
Workers with unions generally have higher pay and job security, better benefits, and fewer scheduling problems. More pay equals fewer hours at work and more hours for enjoying the good things in life. Union workplaces are safer and have less harassment, discrimination, and favoritism.
