Enrollment in the Citizen Potawatomi Nation is based on descendancy only. A biological parent must be an enrolled member for the applicant to be eligible to become a Tribal citizen. The application process is very simple, but it must be filled out completely and a birth certificate is needed to confirm descendency.
Simon Pokagon. Simon Pokagon ( c. 1830- January 28, 1899) was a member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, an author, and a Native American advocate. He was born near Bertrand in southwest Michigan Territory and died on January 28, 1899, in Hartford, Michigan.
The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi is a federally recognized tribe with over 6000 citizens and growing.
