A 9-Line is a simple concise form of communication used by a JTAC to get a cloase air support aircraft onto target. Usually it gives you an intitial point (the reference point to begin your attack from) then tells you bearing, distance and altitude of the target in relation the the initial point.
When it's time to attack, the JTAC will pass the fighters their first 9-Line. This is a standardized format in which the JTAC gives the targeting information to the fighters. The JTAC will start off by telling the fighters the Type of control and targeting that will be used for the attack.
