1957-Present: Part of San Diego San Ysidro, along with the rest of South San Diego, was annexed by the city of San Diego in 1957; an attempt by residents in 1973 to reverse the decision was unsuccessful.
San Ysidro is a working-class, majority-Latino neighborhood known for its strong cross-border ties, cultural vibrancy, and proximity to the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the busiest U.S. land border crossing.
Its easy to traverse the U.S.-Mexico border between San Diego and Tijuana via the Cross Border Xpress (CBX), an enclosed pedestrian bridge in San Diego that connects Tijuana International Airport (TIJ) passengers directly to and from their flights.
In 1900 a vast agricultural arm known as the Imperial Valley was in the course of development in the eastern portion of San Diego County. The isolation of this area from the County Seat at San Diego made division again advisable, and in 1907 San Diego County was divided once more, to create Imperial County.
