A: The standard child support percentage in California is 25%. This means that, in general, 25% of the non-custodial parents net income goes to one child. For two children, its 40%; for three children, its 50%; for four kids, 60%; and for five or more, a higher percentage is determined.
(N.M. Admin. Code, Title 8, Chapter 50 (2025).) Each parent is responsible for a share of the basic child support obligation in proportion to their adjusted gross income. This is calculated by multiplying the combined child support obligation by each parents percentage of combined adjusted gross income.
Using these numbers, the court will determine the weekly payment amount using Appendix IX-F, Schedule of Child Support Awards. For a hypothetical example, if two parents have one child and jointly earn $1,000 per week, then the non-custodial parent must pay $233 in child support each week.
If the check must be payable to the custodial parent, please include the SDU as the co-payee. For example, please make the check payable to [custodial parent] and/or [the state SDU]. Sending payments electronically to state SDUs is another way to ensure payments arrive quickly and safely.
What documents do I need to bring to the child support office? Information about the noncustodial parent. Name, address and Social Security number. Name and address of current or recent employer. Names of friends and relatives, names of organizations to which he or she might belong.
