Research by Paul Tingen. Robert Johnson is known as ``The King of The Delta Blues, and ``The Father of Rock n Roll. Despite his enormous influence, Johnsons musical career lasted barely six years, and he conducted just two recording sessions. He died in 1938, at the age of 27, and was more or less forgotten.
The death of Robert Johnson is shrouded in as much mystery as his life. The most widely accepted story is that he was allegedly having an affair with a married woman, and was poisoned by her jealous husband. He died on August 16th, 1938, in Greenwood, Mississippi.
Verified by McCormick and later by Conforth, the documentation stated clearly that Johnson was buried at Little Zion Baptist Church, off of Money Road in Greenwood.
Johnsons poorly documented life and death have given rise to legends. The one most often associated with him is that he sold his soul to the devil at a local crossroads in return for musical success. His music had a small, but influential, following during his life and in the decades after his death.
One account from the evening of his demise described him on his hands and knees howling and barking like a dog. Dissecting? So it seems possible that this tall, slim, loose jointed guitar wizard with a history of resolving cataract and unexplained sudden death had Marfans syndrome.

Johnson was one of the first musicians inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Keith Richards, Jack White, Robert Plant, and Muddy Waters all site Robert Johnson as a profound influence. Vocalion Records released eleven 78-rpm records by Johnson in 1937 and 1938.
And that claim certainly has some backing. The man who owned the property where Johnson died supposedly wrote that the cause of death was complications from syphilis. Another popular theory has it that Johnson died of Marfan Syndromea connective tissue disorder.
