Feeding Management of Weanling Pigs Pigs weaned at an early age (34 wk) perform best if fed a complex starter diet for 12 wk after weaning. Typically, the starter diet contains dried whey and/or lactose, dried blood products, and a high level of lysine.
About four or five hours after the birth it is a good idea to get your pig outside to do her business, have a walk about and have a feed. We give our pigs a sloppy first feed of milk and pig nuts( her normal ration) and a bucket of water to drink.
It is highly advisable to administer mash to piglets less than 28 days old, and to small and delayed piglets for 3-4 days post-weaning, no more than 1-2 meals per day and not too dense to avoid scares and problems of over-consumption by the dominant piglets in the pen (figure 2).
In the first two weeks post-weaning, special ingredients are needed to increase the palatability and digestibility of the diet. Diets are formulated based on cooked cereals, milk proteins, fish meal, simple sugars, porcine plasma.

Provide dry food, possibly on the floor, once a day for the first three days. Change the feed mix gradually ing to piglet size and weight rather than age. Give piglets easy access to feed and keep feed fresh by making sure automatic dispensers are emptied at least once a day.
Post-weaning formulas (N1, N2, N3) If the N0 formula is used, then some producers prefer to skip the N1 and wean pigs directly on N2, probably with some N0 being mixed with N2 during the first few days post-weaning. Others may use N1 for before and after weaning, eliminating the need for a special creep formula.
