What are the training requirements to obtain a registration? Unarmed security guards must complete a 16-hour course. Armed security guards must complete the 16-hour unarmed course and the 20-hour armed guard course. A searchable list of Board-certified trainers is available here.
How much does it cost to become registered? A new unarmed security guard registration application costs $68, plus processing fees. A new armed security guard registration costs $83, plus processing fees.
An online Permitium registration application. A recent digital photograph of the applicant. A signed Registration Affidavit and Public Notice Statement form. A certificate of completion of the 16-hour unarmed security guard/armored car guard course, dated less than one year from the date of registration application.
It may be submitted on CD or floppy disk or emailed to the following address: PPSASL-Photos at ncdoj.gov. The applicant will sign an information release form. The initial registration fee for unarmed guard is $30; for armed guard, it is $45. The $38 fingerprint fee is also paid at the time of application.
North Carolina Private Investigation Agency License Agency Fee: $150 application fee + $38 fingerprint fee + $500 license fee.
