To obtain critical weather information, the National Weather Service (NWS) established SKYWARN® with partner organizations. SKYWARN® is a volunteer program with between 350,000 and 400,000 trained severe weather spotters.
To become a Skywarn® spotter, you must attend one of these training sessions. In some cases, you will be asked to pre-register through the hosting agency. You will be enrolled in the Skywarn® program at the training class, and given specific information for reporting severe weather to the National Weather Service.
