On March 20, 1869, Wyoming was incorporated as a town by the Delaware General Assembly. Population growth continued in the following years. By 1886 the school house built in 1870 had become too small for the number of children attending from the town and surrounding area.
Delaware was founded in 1631 by the Dutch. In 1638, the Swedish created a new settlement. After some fighting between the Dutch and the Swedish, the Duke of York took control, and he ceded the land to William Penn. Delaware became the first state on December 7, 1787.
