Family Ecomap Example A family ecomap paints a picture of the family unit showing strong bonds, conflicts, and outside influences like extended family, community groups, and service providers. It helps to understand how a family works together and where they face challenges.
An ecomap is one of the most useful visual tools to show the relationships of an individual with their environment. For example, in an ecogram example, you include the family, the neighbors, the schoolmates or colleagues, and any other person who is a part of someones intimate or extended circle.
Meet the ecomap, a visual assessment tool mental health professionals have used since the early 1980s. Ecomaps offer a complete picture of a persons life, allowing therapists to spot strengths, challenges, and areas needing intervention within the clients ecosystem.
A genogram is a graphic portrayal of the composition and structure of ones family and an ecomap is a graphic portrayal of personal and family social relationships.
The person who is the focus of the ecomap goes inside a large circle at the centre of the chart. Smaller circles around the middle circle represent different relationships, groups, orgnaisations and other relevant factors in the individuals life. Lines connect the smaller circles to the centre circle.
