I will listen to and immediately obey all commands and instructions given by this person. Whenever I handle an air rifle, or guns of any kind, I will always maintain control of the muzzle so that it points in a safe direction. I will take special care to be sure I never point the muzzle at another person or myself.
JROTC Cadets are engaged in Three Position Air Rifle Marksmanship commonly known as 3P Air Rifle Shooting. The Range distance is 10-meters and the air rifles, powered by compressed air or CO2, use pellets made of soft lead, 4.5 mm in diameter (. 177 caliber).
The Sharp Shooter Badge is awarded to a cadet who has fired on the range and achieved a score of 175-199. The Marksman Badge is awarded to a cadet who has fired on the range and achieved a score of 150- 174.
I will always conduct myself to bring credit to my family, country, school and the Corps of Cadets. I am loyal and patriotic. I am the future of the United States of America. I shall not lie, cheat, or steal, and will always be accountable for both my actions and deeds.
Many JROTC programs have a marksmanship component as part of their for-credit classes. Students who sign up are taught how to use guns in firing ranges.

There are three positions used for firing; Prone, standing, and kneeling. In prone, you lie on your stomach on a mat, holding the rifle with both hands, resting both elbows on the mat to stabilize the rifle, with a sling on your arm. Laying your body at an angle to make it more comfortable.
Whenever I handle guns, I will do so without placing my finger on the trigger. I will place my finger on the trigger only when I am on the firing line, after I have placed my air rifle in a firing position and have begun to aim at the target. I understand what the range commands LOAD, START, STOP and UNLOAD mean.
