ULEZ exempt cars To avoid the ULEZ charge, petrol cars must meet Euro 4 emissions standards at the least. Most petrol cars produced on or after January 2006 will be Euro 4 compliant.
This applies to both UK and non-UK vehicles. If you receive any other discounts or exemptions for the Congestion Charge you still need to pay the ULEZ charge if you drive within the zone in a vehicle that does not meet the ULEZ standards.
Lorries, vans or specialist heavy vehicles (all over 3.5 tonnes) and buses, minibuses and coaches (all over 5 tonnes) do not need to pay the ULEZ charge. They will need to pay the charge if they do not meet the Low Emission Zone () emissions standard.
The cleaner vehicle discount will end on 25 December 2025.
What cars are exempt from ULEZ? There are certain types of vehicles that are exempt from ULEZ charges, including electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, Euro 6 compliant diesel vehicles, Euro 4 compliant petrol vehicles, and electric motorcycles and scooters.

If your vehicle doesnt meet the ULEZ emissions standards and isnt exempt, you need to pay a 12.50 daily charge to drive within the zone. This applies to cars, motorcycles, vans and specialist vehicles (up to and including 3.5 tonnes) and minibuses (up to and including 5 tonnes).
