Just last name, first name, two columns of dates and two columns of numbers here. Now if I want to sort by a column its pretty simple to do. All I need to do is click anywhere in the table so the table is the one selected. Then if I move my cursor over the top here you could see for each column I have this little arrow here and if I click on it I get some quick actions. One of those quick actions is to Sort. As a matter of fact theres two of them. Sort Ascending and Sort Descending. Sort Numbers Not in Tables First you have to operate on the numbers to be sorted. Still select these numbers. Then click Home. Click Sort icon in Paragraph group. Now there should be a Sort Text window. Next choose Number for Type. Then choose the sorting order, ascending or descending.
In general terms, Ascending means smallest to largest, 0 to 9, and/or A to Z and Descending means largest to smallest, 9 to 0, and/or Z to A.
Sorting them in descending order would look like this: 80, 56, 49, 20, 11 . You always start first with the largest number on the left and end with the smallest one on the right. In this example, 80 is the largest and 11 is the smallest. The numbers in between are also in order from largest to smallest.
From the Home tab, select Sort to open the Sort Text box. Sorting in Word is simple. Choose Paragraphs in the Sort By box and choose Text in the Type box. Select Ascending (A to Z) or Descending (Z to A).
