In DSSS, a spreading code is used to map each data bit in the original signal to multiple bits in the transmitted signal. The pseudorandom code (spreading code) spreads the input data across a wider frequency range compared with the input frequency. In the frequency domain, the output signals appear as noise.
The main advantage of spread spectrum communication technique is to prevent interference whether it is intentional or unintentional. The signals modulated with these techniques are hard to interfere and cannot be jammed. An intruder with no official access is never allowed to crack them.
There are two predominant techniques to spread the spectrum: 1) Frequency hoping (FH), which makes the narrow band signal jump in random narrow bands within a larger bandwidth. 2) Direct sequence (DS) which introduces rapid phase transition to the data to make it larger in bandwidth.
Spread-spectrum radios work by frequency hopping and transmitting at discrete frequencies over part of the unlicensed band, rather than by transmitting over a very wide part of the spectrum as some other devices do.
Disadvantages of DSSS: Processing Gain is lower than DSSS. Channel Bandwidth is less than FHSS. Synchronization is affected by the variable distance between the transmitter and receiver.
There are two types of spread spectrum techniques: the frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technique and the direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technique.
There are two types of spread spectrum techniques: the frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technique and the direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technique.
The DS-CDMA system uses two types of spreading sequences, i.e., PN sequences and orthogonal codes. As mentioned above, the PN sequenc is generated by the pseudo-random noise generator.
