Go to Layout Page Setup Header Footer. Under Header or Footer, on the pop-up menu, select (none).
By default, both positions are one-half inch. If you change the Header From Top position to 0.25 (Figure C), Word adjusts the space between the page number and the top of the page.
Heres how to unprotect the body of the document: Select everything in the document but the section header. To do so, position the cursor at the beginning of the first line in the document by pressing Ctrl + Home. Then, press Ctrl + Shift + End to select everything but section break.
To change margins, click on the Margins button, found on the Page Layout tab. Word lists a number of pre-formatted options, but you can also make your own margins by selecting Custom Margins, found at the bottom of the Margins list. You can change each of the four margins in the dialog box that appears.
Go to Insert Header or Footer. Choose from a list of standard headers or footers, go to the list of Header or Footer options, and select the header or footer that you want. Or, create your own header or footer by selecting Edit Header or Edit Footer. When youre done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
The most common size for a web pages header is still 1024 pixels wide, despite the fact that screens are getting larger. Websites are built to be viewed at a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. The file sizes shown above are for high-resolution images that can easily scale to maintain higher than 1920px resolutions.
When you are working in the header/footer, the document body is dimmed, and when the document layer is active, the header and footer are dimmed. This is meant to be a visual cue to the user.
The top, bottom, and right margins are required to be 1 inch, but the left margin can either be 1 inch or 1.25 inches.
Margins are a section property. That means you cant change the left and right margins for the header or footer without also changing them for the body of the document. To work around this behavior, use an indent and aligned tab in the header. You can do so manually or by modifying the Header or Footer style.
In most cases, when you cant edit the header or footer, the reason is that the content isnt supported for editing in Word Online. You should be able to download the document to your local drive, though.
