As you work, Word automatically starts a new page when you get to the end of each page. If you want to control where one page ends and the next begins, insert a manual page break by putting the cursor where you want to start a new page, and then select Insert, Page Break. To change the settings for how Word treats paragraphs across page breaks, select Layout and then click the arrow in the Paragraph group. In the Paragraph dialog box, select Line and Page Breaks. Under Pagination, choose the option that works best for you. If you need to delete a page break that has been added to a document, youll need to first show the paragraph marks. Select Home, Show/Hide Paragraph Marks. Paragraph marks are non-printing characters like page breaks, paragraph markers, spacing, or section breaks that can help you format a document. Next, go to the page break you want to remove, double-click it so that its selected, then press Delete.

Always force a page break before a paragraph Select the paragraph that you want to follow the page break. On the Home tab in Word, or on the FORMAT TEXT tab in an Outlook email, select the Paragraph Dialog Box launcher . Select the Line and Page Breaks tab. Under Pagination, select Page break before. Select OK.
Select where you want a new section to begin. Go to Layout Breaks, and then choose the type of section break you want.
Insert a page break Put your cursor where you want one page to end and the next to begin. Go to Insert Page Break.
If manual page breaks that you add dont work, you may have the Fit To scaling option selected (Page Layout tab - Page Setup group - click Dialog Box Launcher Button image - Page). Change the scaling to Adjust to instead. On the picture below, you can see 3 horizontal page breaks added.
Scroll down until you see the Page Layout options (Compatibility Options in Word 2019 and Word in Office 365). It is at the very bottom of the dialog box; you may need to click the arrow at the left side of the options to see them all. Make sure the Split Apart Page Break and Paragraph Mark check box is selected.
On the Insert tab, click the Page Break command. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl+Enter on your keyboard. The page break will be applied to the document, and the text will move to the next page.
You cant remove automatic page breaks, but you can prevent them from landing in awkward places, such as between lines of text youd like to keep together. You can adjust the page break settings for selected paragraphs. Select the paragraphs you want to apply the settings to.
Go to Layout Breaks Page. Click or tap in the document where you want a page break. Go to Insert Page Break.
Add a section break Select where you want a new section to begin. Go to Layout Breaks. Choose the type of section break you want: Next Page Section break starts the new section on the following page. Continuous Section break starts the new section on the same page.
Select the row that is underneath the row where you want the page to break. Select the column that is to the right of the column where you want the page to break. On the Layout tab, under Page Setup, click Breaks, and then click Insert Page Break.
