Glossy paper is very shiny, while a lustre finish is semi-shiny. Colors are more vibrant in glossy prints. But a lustre finish shows more accurate skin tones. Also, a lustre finish is more resistant to fingerprints, smudges, and scratches.
A glossy finish will come with an ultra-smooth, shiny appearance. Its also very colour rich and vibrant. Whereas matte paper gives off a duller, more subtle finish. Therefore, the content and images on a glossy finish will strike the audience more effectively.
I recommend using matte paper if youre planning on framing (to cut down on reflections), or if your images dont include much intense color. Glossy paper, on the other hand, is highly reflective and prone to fingerprints, but its also very vibrant. So glossy paper is ideal if you want to enhance colors.
Matte. A matte finish means that the photo doesnt have any shine, making it a great option for photos you want to display in a glass frame or in brighter areas. Because light doesnt bounce off this finish, there isnt as much of a glare, which can be beneficial in calmer areas like living rooms or doctors offices.
Professional photographers use photo paper with a matte finish as it doesnt reflect light like glossy finishes. Pros prefer to have the final image viewed without the distraction of glare from the paper. And as many pro photographers frame their photos behind glass, a matte finish is best for this display style.
Lustre and metallic finishes are both used by professional photographers. Choosing between a lustre or a metallic print comes down to personal preference. Both provide vibrant colors and high-quality photos. If you want to hang up a photo in your home, we suggest the metallic finish.
The choice between gloss and satin finish is often a matter of taste. Satin paper will provide the most flexible image on a piece of paper, allowing it to be displayed in differing environments. Glossy papers are liked by many but required precise conditions in order to be viewed to its full potential.
