and so i am outside of a house that were in the middle of fixing up in denver um so the big thing about this house is that in the basement the basement was finished half finished by the previous owner and theres some things about it that dont meet code that would be really hard to be code and ill show you when we get down there but because of that you cant really pull a permit for some things and not for others because then when they when they show up to do the inspections they see the stuff thats not permitted so youll see we last weekend we put new windows uh around the whole house and we put new siding on the front this weekend were gonna do the siding on the two sides of the house and then well have the back to finish later so when youre doing work that doesnt have a permit that should uh i highly suggest putting the dumpster in back because the city looks for dumpsters and then they look whats inside the dumpster and they know you know whether you they can see if you

There are consequences for not getting a permit. You could face a fine, or the municipality may force you to remove walls, ceilings, cabinets and other finishes so that an inspector can determine if the work complies with the building requirements. In the worst case, theyll have the renovation removed entirely.
An individual who is charged and found guilty of an offence under the Building Code Act, 1992 , such as building without a permit, can be fined up to $50,000 for a first offence and up to $100,000 for subsequent offences.
Under the Building Code Act, a building permit is required for the construction of a new building, an addition, or alteration of any building or structure with a building area of over 10 square metres (approximately 108 square feet).
Do I need a permit? Typically interior renovations and changes to existing basements do NOT need a permit when the work consists of minor cosmetic upgrades.
