[Music] hi flosstube this is karen with kb studio creations and today im going to show you some ways that i fully finish bookmarks since i have a number of patterns that are bookmarks i thought i would create a tutorial to help you with finishing your bookmarks so the first thing im going to show you is um one of my favorite ways to finish and its its pretty simple so basically what you do is you fray the edges um this isnt focusing very well but on this one i use my sewing machine to sew let me see if i can get it closer so you can see dont think its going to focus ill try to insert a picture so you can see but i sewed a border and then i frayed the outside edges i did the same with this next bookmark and all these patterns are available in my etsy shop which i will link down below um so this one once again i just removed the outside ones and once again its not focusing very well so i will insert a picture um one thing once again i dont know if this will work i will insert

Method: Trim your finished stitching to the desired size (which includes the frayed edge) and then carefully pull away the threads on each side. You can pull away several blocks from aida, just make sure to do each side of your stitching one block at a time so that the threads come out easily.
Finish your bookmark by covering the raw fabric edge. Cut a piece of ribbon to the same length as the bookmark, excluding the fringe. Dot the bookmark seam with glue and press the ribbon on top of the glue.
Zigzagging gives a good finish on more stable fabrics such as cotton poplin or linen. It also tends to give a better finish on closed seams. the double layer of fabric stabilizes the zigzag stitch. Sew the seam and press it flat to set the stitches.
You can overcast the edges with a simple whip stitch, or fold over the edge into a hem and baste it. When hand stitching the edge, use regular sewing thread doubled up. Be sure to stitch into the fabric a bit so you dont end up pulling up the edges - 1/4 to 1/2 inch should work.
