The image is produced by heat, without printing ink, when the selected area of the thermal paper passes over the thermal print head. The image is created through the direct transfer of heat (thermal energy) to the thermal paper: thermal paper has a coating, which changes colour to black when exposed to heat.
Today, fax paper is usually the same as printer paper, either for a laser printer paper (most of the time) or inkjet printer paper (rarely). Older fax machines used a roll of thermal paper (very much like todays receipt printers). Todays fax machines rarely use fax rolls.
Thermo-Fax (very often Thermo fax) is 3Ms trademarked name for a photocopying technology which was introduced in 1950. It was a form of thermographic printing and an example of a dry silver process. It was a docHub advance as no chemicals were required, other than those contained in the copy paper itself.
A facsimile (from Latin fac simile, to make alike) is a copy or reproduction of an old book, manuscript, map, art print, or other item of historical value that is as true to the original source as possible.
Some thermal printers use a heat-activated ink ribbon to create the images on plain paper. But more often, the paper itself is coated with a special heat-activated ink. When the paper is exposed to heat via a thermal print head, microcapsules in the coating break open to release the dye that creates the image or text.
The least expensive fax machines still use rolls of thermal fax paper to print documents.
What information is needed to send a fax? You only need a couple of things to send a fax: your fax documents and the recipients fax number. You can also use a fax cover sheet if youd like to add details such as who the fax is for and what its about.
To find out how to feed documents into your fax machine, look for a logo that looks like a piece of paper with the corner folded. If the logo has lines on the front of the paper, then you should feed the documents in face-up. If the logo is blank, put them in face-down.
Fax machines from the 1970s to the 1990s often used direct thermal printers with rolls of thermal paper as their printing technology, but since the mid-1990s there has been a transition towards plain-paper faxes: thermal transfer printers, inkjet printers and laser printers.
The least expensive fax machines still use rolls of thermal fax paper to print documents. You can buy a brand-name thermal-paper fax for your home for under $150, and you will see manufacturer closeouts or dealer floor models selling for $75 or less.
