when you bring data into Excel you sometimes end up with extra spaces and other characters that cause problems Excel contains two functions that can help you clean things up lets take a look here we have a list of movie titles that were copied in from some other system you can see that theres a problem with extra space characters not only are there extra spaces between words there are also extra spaces at the beginning and end of some of the titles Excel contains a special text function called trim thats designed to fix this problem trim takes one argument the text you want to process in this case we just need to add a reference to the titles in column C and then copy the formula down the result is a set of cleaned up titles without extra spaces notice that trim replaces multiple spaces between words with a single space however spaces at the beginning or end of the titles are completely removed on the next sheet we have a different problem line breaks that appear inside the movie t

To eliminate text before a given character, type the character preceded by an asterisk (*char). To remove text after a certain character, type the character followed by an asterisk (char*). To delete a substring between two characters, type an asterisk surrounded by 2 characters (char*char).
Using the SHIFT key, select B1 to B1000. In the example, hold Shift and click cell B1000 to select cells B1 through B1000. Now, type =CLEAN(A1) (excluding the quotes) and then press Ctrl-Enter to apply the CLEAN function to the entire selection and clean every data point on our list.

Removes all nonprintable characters from text. Use CLEAN on text imported from other applications that contains characters that may not print with your operating system. Select a blank cell you will return the text string without letters, and enter the formula =StripChar(A2) (A2 is the cell that you will remove letters from) into it, and drag the Fill Handle down to the range as you need.
Select the cell from which you want your text to be removed. Use backspace, and thats it. You can see that theres no text left. That is how we can remove text from a cell in excel just by using backspace.
Select the tabular data as shown below. Select the home option and go to the editing group in the ribbon. The clear option is available in the group, as shown below. Select the clear option and click on the clear formats option.
It is also an inbuilt function in Excel. Type =CLEAN( in a cell and provide a text as an argument for using this function. Remember, it removes the non-printable character.

To delete the first or last n characters from a string, this is what you need to do: On the Ablebits Data tab, in the Text group, click Remove Remove by Position. On the add-ins pane, select the target range, specify how many characters to delete, and hit Remove.
