To create your own header or footer from scratch, double-click the margin at the top or bottom of your document. This will unlock the header or footer area, so you can add whatever information you want. You can also use the tools on the Design tab, which will appear on the right side of the Ribbon. When youre done, you can close the header or footer using the button here, or by pressing Esc on your keyboard. If you dont have a lot of experience with headers and footers, you might want to start with a built-in preset instead. Preset headers and footers give you several different designs to choose from, so theyre a great choice for any document. Edit your existing headers and footers Double-click the header or footer you want to edit, or select Header or Footer, and then select Edit Header or Edit Footer. Add or change text for the header or footer or do any of the following: When youre done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
To change the position of your headers and footers, first click on the Page Layout tab. Then, click on the Header Footer button. This will bring up the Header Footer toolbar. From here, you can choose whether you want your header or footer to be positioned at the top or bottom of the page.
