Employers use Form 8850 to pre-screen and to make a written request to their state workforce agency (SWA) to docHub an individual as a member of a targeted group for purposes of qualifying for the work opportunity credit.
You and the employer must complete the necessary forms on or before the day you are offered work, so you should let the employer know when you first apply or when you are being interviewed. For more information, visit Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC).
The WOTC has two purposes: To promote the hiring of individuals who qualify as a member of a target group, and. To provide a federal tax credit to employers who hire these individuals.
The purpose of this request is to support the hiring of certain disabled veterans, which may entitle the employer to a larger work opportunity credit than the hiring of other targeted group members.
The IRS Form 8850, with the ETA Form 9062 attached, will serve as the request for a WOTC certification and must not show any evidence of tampering with the applicants responses. If the applicant meets all the criteria, the WOTC Center will send the employer a WOTC Certification, DE 8727.

People also ask

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit is a voluntary program. As such, employers are not obligated to recruit WOTC-eligible applicants and job applicants dont have to complete the WOTC eligibility questionnaire. Employers can still hire these individuals if they so choose, but will not be able to claim the tax credit.
