In this video tutorial, Jens Miller, a PhD candidate at the University of Bohol, introduces research on breaking PDF encryption, which was a joint effort with the University of Applied Sciences in Munster. The research introduces two novel attacks on PDF encryption called PDF Acceleration (PDFX). The first attack, Direct Exfiltration, exploits weaknesses in the PDF data format structure allowing for partial encryption. The second attack, Mobility Gadgets, targets flaws in the US block cipher modes of operation. Miller provides an outline of the talk, which will cover these attacks in detail.
