There are times when converting a csv file using the Unicode method does not work and Users may encounter the error: "Invalid CSV file format. Please select a different file. Error reading row #: the number of data columns exceeds the number of columns in the header."
Special characters can serve different functions in the query syntax. To search for a special character that has a special function in the query syntax, you must escape the special character by adding a backslash before it, for example: To search for the string "where?", escape the question mark as follows: "where\?"
By default, the escape character is a " (double quote) for CSV-formatted files. If you want to use a different escape character, use the ESCAPE clause of COPY , CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE or gpload to declare a different escape character.
There are no restrictions on what characters you can use in a CSV file.
