Base64 is a group of similar binary-to-text encoding schemes that represent binary data in an ASCII string format by translating it into a radix-64 representation. The term Base64 originates from a specific MIME content transfer encoding.
Base64 is a scheme for converting binary data to printable ASCII characters, namely the upper- and lower-case Roman alphabet characters (AZ, az), the numerals (09), and the + and / symbols, with the = symbol as a special suffix code. The datas original length must be a multiple of eight bits.
It uses radix-64 conversion, in which each group of three octets of binary data is mapped into four ASCII characters. This format also appends a CRC to detect transmission errors. The use of radix 64 expands a message by 33%, but still an overall compression of about one-third can be achieved.
The base 64 digits in ascending order from zero are the uppercase characters A to Z, lowercase characters a to z, numerals 0 to 9, and the symbols + and /. % is not allowed in base64 encoding. Save this answer.
To decode a file with contents that are base64 encoded, you simply provide the path of the file with the --decode flag. As with encoding files, the output will be a very long string of the original file. You may want to output stdout directly to a file.
All that you can determine is that the string contains only characters that are valid for a base64 encoded string. It may not be possible to determine that the string is the base64 encoded version of some data. for example test1234 is a valid base64 encoded string, and when you decode it you will get some bytes.
Base64 is considered a radix-64 representation. It uses only 6 bits( 2⁶ = 64 characters) to ensure that humans can read the printable data.
Radix-64 Conversion. Suppose the text to be encrypted has been converted into binary using ASCII coding and encrypted to give a ciphertext stream of binary. Radix-64 conversion maps arbitrary binary into printable characters as follows: Page 6 6 Radix-64 Conversion 1.
No, if you ask about the result of the base64 encoding. The input need not be a string and can indeed contain anything.
Yes. Base64-encoded string can contain white-spaces but the characters are not docHub. So its ok if database trims spaces. As a matter of fact, the original MIME specification recommends to break Base64 strings into lines of 72 characters.
