Lets do a little compare and contrast between the dot product and the cross product. Let me just make two vectors-- just visually draw them. And maybe if we have time, well, actually figure out some dot and cross products with real vectors. Lets call the first one-- Thats the angle between them. OK. So lets just go over the definitions and then well work on the intuition. And hopefully, you have a little bit of both already. So what is a dot b? Well first of all, thats the exact same thing as b dot a. Order does not matter when you take the dot product because you end up with just a number. And that is equal to the magnitude of a times the magnitude of b times cosine of the angle between them. Lets look at the definition of the cross product. What is a cross b? Well first of all, that does not equal b cross a. It actually equals the opposite direction, or you could view it as the negative of b cross a. Because the vector that you end up with ends up flipped, whichever order yo

6.1 OVERVIEW. In hardened HCC, a void is an empty space, other than a crack, in the cement paste that contains nothing but air.
The basic approach, using the plane- intercept method, was to pass a plane through the concrete and measure the di- ameters of the circles transcribed vihea the plane intercepted voids and then, by a mathematical analysis of the data obtained, determine the properties of the entrained voids.
The void ratio in cement is 55%, fine aggregate 40%, in coarse aggregate 45%. The material properties of mix is 1 ∶ 1.5 ∶ 3 by weight with water cement ratio 0.50.
Entrained air should fall between 4% and 7% of the concretes volume. For concrete that will be regularly exposed to freeze/thaw cycles, aim for 6%. Anything less than 4% would not have the durability needed to last through multiple winters. Be careful not to go overboard with air entrainment, however.
Concrete having a total air void content of about 6.5% seems optimal. A mix having 6.5% total air voids will have approximately 1.5% entrapped air voids and 5.0% entrained air voids. Entrapped air is the larger bubbles formed in the mixing process and does not provide much protection against freeze-thaw action.
Information obtained from the tests indicates that the average diameter of the voids in concrete may vary from about 0.1 mm. in normal concrete to less than half that size m air-entrained concrete.
Keep available standard specimens of concrete with a range of different types of air-void systems: Air-void contents of 2 percent to 14 percent are recommended. These should be specimens that have been analyzed by a number of different operators.
The void ratio in cement is 55%, fine aggregate 40%, in coarse aggregate 45%. The material properties of mix is 1 ∶ 1.5 ∶ 3 by weight with water cement ratio 0.50.
