Click Tools, then select Web options. Go to the Encoding tab. In the dropdown for Save this document as: choose Unicode (UTF-8). Click Ok.
Method 1 On a Windows computer, open the CSV file using Notepad. Click File Save As. In the dialog window that appears - select ANSI from the Encoding field. Then click Save. Thats all! Open this new CSV file using Excel - your non-English characters should be displayed properly.
A CSV file stores data in rows and the values in each row is separated with a separator, also known as a delimiter. Although the file is defined as Comma Separated Values, the delimiter could be anything. The most common delimiters are: a comma (,), a semicolon (;), a tab (\t), a space ( ) and a pipe (|).
Click File in the top-left corner of your screen. Click Advanced options. Click the drop-down menu next to Text Encoding. Select Unicode (UTF-8).
Name your file, select CSV file type, and click Tools Web Options below. Go to the Encoding tab, In the dropdown for Save this document as: choose Unicode (UTF-8) and click OK. The file is saved. Now we import it and see that the text is displayed correctly.
Excel on Windows: Open Excel, search Get Data From Text to open a wizard when you want to open a CSV file. Go to the location of the CSV file, that you want to import. Choose Delimited, set the character encoding to 65001: Unicode (UTF-8) from the dropdown list. Check My data has headers.
Name your file, select CSV file type, and click Tools Web Options below. Go to the Encoding tab, In the dropdown for Save this document as: choose Unicode (UTF-8) and click OK. The file is saved.
Viewing and Editing CSV files with Unicode characters Open Excel from your menu or Desktop. Navigate to Data Get External Data From Text. Navigate to the location of the CSV file you want to import. Choose the Delimited option. Set the character encoding File Origin to 65001: Unicode (UTF-8) from the drop-down list.
