Use a bulleted list for unordered items; use a numbered list for ordered items. In other words: If you rearrange the items in a bulleted list, the lists meaning does not change. If you rearrange the items in a numbered list, the lists meaning changes.
Select an existing numbered list. On the HOME tab, click the Numbering drop-down menu that appears. Select Bullets and Numbering from the menu that appears. A dialog box will appear. In the Start At field, enter the desired starting number. The list numbering will change.
Use a numbered list to display complete sentences or paragraphs in a series (e.g., itemized conclusions, steps in a procedure). Use a lettered list or bulleted list rather than a numbered list if the items are phrases.
Place your cursor where you want a bulleted or numbered list. On the Home tab, click the arrow next to Bullets or Numbering. Choose a style and start typing. Press Enter every time you want a new bullet or number, or press Enter twice to end the list.
Create a list. To start a numbered list, type 1, a period (.), a space, and some text. Word will automatically start a numbered list for you. Type* and a space before your text, and Word will make a bulleted list.
