Using footnotes or endnotes involves placing a superscript number at the end of a sentence with information (paraphrase, quotation or data) that you wish to cite. The superscript numbers should generally be placed at the end of the sentence to which they refer.
If you are referring to a word, place the footnote number directly after the word. If you cite one source multiple times, use ibid or supra after the first citation rather than repeating the full citation. Ibid is used when referring to the same source in the footnote immediately above.
In Chicago notes and bibliography style, you can use either footnotes or endnotes, and citations follow the same format in either case. In APA and MLA style, footnotes or endnotes are not used for citations, but they can be used to provide additional information.
Reference Format: Title [if there is one], bill or resolution number, Cong. (year).
The Chicago citation style is the method established by the University of Chicago Press for documenting sources used in a research paper and is probably the most commonly used footnote format.
If the subsequent citation is in the footnote immediately following the full citation, you can use ibid. Used alone, ibid means in the very same place in other words, the same source and the same page or paragraph as the preceding full citation.
How to cite a UN report in Chicago Author(s) of the report: Give first the last name, then the name as presented in the source (e. g. Watson, John). Title of the report: Give the title as presented in the source. Place of publication: Give the place of publication of the source.
Footnotes are notes indicated in your text with numbers and placed at the bottom of the page. Theyre used to provide: Citations (e.g., in Chicago notes and bibliography) Additional information that would disrupt the flow of the main text.
3): ing to the Bluebook, when citing reports from UN committees the citation should include the name of the body and the subcommittee, if any, the title of the report, the document symbol, and the date. Many reports of major bodies of the General Assembly are printed as supplements to the Official Records.
APA Style requires you to use APA in-text citations, not footnotes, to cite sources. However, you can use APA footnotes sparingly for two purposes: Giving additional information. Providing copyright attribution.
