To password protect a PDF file on your Mac, double-click on the file, then go to File > Export. You can rename the document if desired, then check the box next to Encrypt. Enter the desired password, save the file to a chosen destination. This password will be needed to open the encrypted PDF. It is recommended not to include the password in the same email when sharing the file, instead call or text the recipient. This is a useful tool for sending sensitive information like financial or medical documents via email.
