2 Main Types Of Secured PDFs A user-locked PDF simply means that as the user, youll need a password to view the contents. An owner-locked PDF means that you need a password to modify the document in any way. This can include copying, printing, or other forms of editing.
Open the locked Microsoft Word file. While you cant actually edit its contents, you do have the ability to save the file into a new format. Open the Save As menu by pressing Ctrl-Shift-S and select Rich Text Format from the drop-down menu. Name the file whatever you want and save it somewhere convenient.
Click the Lock icon in the upper-left corner of the page. Click the link labeled: Permission Details. In the Security Method drop down, select: No Security. Enter your unlock password and click the OK button three times.
